The story
Danner & Flemming grew from a research project on cultivating and processing fragrant iris in Bavaria. Christian Danner contributes agricultural expertise and Marcel Flemming biological and olfactory development, alongside a team spanning chemistry, operations and design. The brand is based in Regensburg.
From plantlet to raw material, the house works with its own iris and turns each harvest into millésime perfumes. For the current trio, Antoine Lie placed each iris essence at the center of the composition.
01 · From field to bottle

A research question becomes a perfume house

The story began with a question: could high-quality fragrant iris be cultivated in Bavaria? A research project led by Professor Werner Kunz grew into an integrated value chain. Christian Danner cultivates the iris in Bavaria, while Marcel Flemming and the team develop the raw materials further. The origin of the central material therefore remains traceable.

02 · Raw material and method

Iris with its own signature

Iris rhizomes need several years before harvest. After cleaning and slicing, they are dried quickly and gently, then refined through a patented process. Iris essences take center stage at unusually high levels of 2.5 to 4.1 percent in the perfume oil. This is why the three fragrances each reveal a different facet of the raw material.

03 · Three iris compositions

Each variety deserves its own scent

The house lets the raw material shape each fragrance profile. Iris Altesse uses Iris pallida with floral and green facets. Iris Poulsard presents Iris germanica in a fruity-spicy direction, while Iris Trousseau emphasizes the creamy, powdery side of Iris germanica Danner. Antoine Lie composed all three.

What the community says about Danner & Flemming

10/10
A fruity-spicy opening of cassis, bergamot, and pink pepper that immediately creates a slightly dark yet elegant tension. In the heart, a noble iris structure takes center stage, accompanied by orange blossom, jasmine sambac, and tuberose, which give the fragrance a creamy-floral depth and classic elegance. The drydown is slightly grounded by patchouli, giving the composition a soft, slightly earthy base that cleanly balances the floral character. Overall, an elegant, iris-centered fragrance with a fruity opening and floral sophistication.

My God, it's beautiful. Noble creamy-nutty iris (not powdery at all in this perfume), for feeling good/snuggling up. Reminds me a bit of 'les bras de morphée' by Hellenist (also an incredibly great fragrance). Not a 10/10 because the price is quite hard to swallow, otherwise it would have moved in with me already.

A beautiful fragrance with dominant iris. Powdery, not intrusive. But not necessarily more spectacular than other iris fragrances.
