The story
Toskovat is an independent perfume house from Bucharest, founded in 2022 by David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi. After studying film and screenwriting, he looked for a new storytelling medium during the pandemic and found it in scent.
The brand calls its work “extraits de mémoire”: not pleasant illustrations of isolated notes, but narratives about human experience. Personal starting points are translated into shared memory spaces shaped by childhood, cinema, loss, consumerism, or war.
01 · Founder

From screenplay to scent

David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi studied film and screenwriting when the pandemic disrupted his intended career. Instead of continuing his stories on screen, he began developing fragrance formulas from a small palette of materials. Toskovat emerged publicly as a Romanian perfume house in 2022.

02 · Concept

Memory rather than scenery

Toskovat calls its work extraits de mémoire. Personal memories form the starting point, but the fragrances are intended to touch experiences that do not belong to the founder alone. The official manifesto describes them as non-linear and recommends revisiting image, sound, and scent together.

03 · Method

Story first, formula second

David-Lev Jipa-Slivinschi starts with an emotion or scene, then sketches the notes that could express it. For abstract impressions he studies the molecules perceived in materials such as money, plastic, or ink. He describes this translation not as naturalistic painting but as olfactory caricature.
