It remains a captive ingredient, meaning it is exclusively available to Givaudan's perfumers and cannot be purchased on the open market. This exclusivity gives Givaudan compositions a distinctive woody signature that competitors simply cannot replicate.

Georgywood emerged from Givaudan's research laboratories during the golden era of woody molecule discovery in the 1990s. While Iso E Super had already transformed perfumery, Givaudan sought something even more refined and powerful. The result became one of the most valued captive molecules in the industry - a secret weapon that helped shape the modern woody fragrance landscape. Chemistry and Molecular Structure
Georgywood (CAS 185429-83-8) has the molecular formula C16H26O. It belongs to the family of octahydronaphthalenone compounds - the same structural class as Iso E Super, but with a different arrangement of the double bond and methyl group positions. Commercially, Georgywood is produced as a racemic mixture of the olfactively active isomer and the much weaker iso-Georgywood in roughly equal amounts, with the active isomer being over 10,000 times more potent.
