The story

AZYA grows from the personal story of its founder and perfume designer, Azya. She belongs to the nomadic Afar people, was born in Eritrea, and grew up in Ethiopia and Djibouti. The brand is now based in Munich.

Its first collection translates the nature and volcanic landscapes of the Horn of Africa into six unisex extraits. The fragrances are created in Italy, according to AZYA’s own presentation. The result connects personal heritage, African landscapes and Italian perfumery tradition.

01 · The founder

A personal language of scent

Azya describes her heritage as part of the nomadic Afar people. Born in Eritrea and raised in Ethiopia and Djibouti, she remembers the scents of spices, water and salt flats from her childhood. These experiences form the personal starting point of the brand without reducing the landscapes to a cliché.

02 · Origin and landscape

African nature as a starting point

The first fragrance line draws on natural forces and volcanoes across the Horn of Africa. Azya Alid, Azya Dubbi, Azya Gufa, Azya Jalua, Azya Mabda and Azya Nabro carry names connected with these landscapes or their cultural setting. The website frames the collection with the line “Inspired by Africa. Created in Italy.”

03 · Perfumery

Six extraits, one clear premise

The six fragrances are presented as unisex extraits de parfum. Their official product pages describe different contrasts, such as fresh citrus and warm woods in Azya Dubbi, or coffee, saffron and a leathery base in Azya Jalua. What they share is the connection between African inspiration and Italian production.
