Indole

For perfumery use, it is produced synthetically, giving perfumers precise control over its concentration.

Beyond perfumery, the indole skeleton is one of the most important structures in biochemistry - it forms the core of tryptophan, serotonin, and melatonin, and appears in countless alkaloids from strychnine to psilocybin.
